I like the area near the Hilton Hotel area because it has an elevated dock platform, or you can get near the water!

I highly recommend a tripod to hold your camera steady if you have a camera.
Photography Tips for Shooting Sunrise or Sunsets.
- Use the best camera you have access to
- Use a tripod
- Set your ISO to 100
- Set a time of 2 seconds (so you don’t shake the camera when pressing the shutter)
- Buy a variable ND filter that blocks out more light (lets you do a long exposure)
Use a relatively small aperture of f5.6 and or higher. Most camera lenses’ sweet spot is around F/8. But try different f-stops until you find the one you like. Of course, the higher the f-stop, the more in focus everything will be.
Pro tip: If you underexpose the sky by a stop or two, you will get richer colors in the sky! That is the photography technique we used to caputre this sunrise photograph in Playa del Carmen.
To create this long sunrise exposure, I used a variable nd filter, iso 100, f16, and kept the shutter open for 3. 2 seconds.
